This is the scenario that faced the designers of Disaster Docs To Go, and what motivated them to create this unique organizational evacuation system for their family and yours.
Living at the wildland urban interface with a home full of pets and a child who relies on medical equipment for basic life functions requires early planning in the event of a disaster. Realizing that hastily scribbled notes on a chalkboard would result in too many important items left behind during an emergency, the idea that “we can do better” during an evacuation developed.
From there, the designer used their knowledge of packing and planning to create lists for a general home evacuation, the evacuation of animals, people with special needs, senior citizens and small businesses run out of a home. Years of experience as a large animal veterinarian and pet owner, knowledge from being the child of a parent with Alzheimer’s disease, and as the owner of a home-operated small business, the developer of Disaster Docs To Go was able to create a group of comprehensive packing lists and design a functional packing system for a variety of home evacuation scenarios.
Natural disasters can occur at any time, and living in California, unplanned disasters from wildfires and earthquakes have become a normal way of life for residents of the Golden State. Knowing what to pack when you only have a few moments to leave can make a critical difference in your health, the health of your family and pets, and in the recovery process if home loss occurs.
While Disaster Docs to Go can help with immediate packing and evacuation needs in the middle of a disaster event, it also becomes an even more important tool to use for pre-evacuation planning for whatever disaster may strike in your part of the country. By preparing your essential documents, necessary personal evacuation items, and irreplaceable family heirlooms and memories, you can be ready to keep your family and pets safe, salvaging what is most important to you and your family so you can rebuild your life if necessary.
